Brazilian artist and photographer Vik Muniz uses old hand cut photographs for his mind-bending large-scale collages. The artist has used all sorts of found objects to create various artworks, however his newest collage series “Album” is dedicated to praising the field of photography and its legacy. Most of the images are in sepia or black and white, projecting a highly nostalgic note.
Muniz explains, “This current body of work focuses on the materiality of the photograph, drawing attention to the ways in which the physical character of the image is lost as we shift toward digital technologies and new modes of viewing.”
